What we do

Today, there is no easy way to prevent an individual from falling victim to and then making a scam or illegitimate payment

Current strategies fail to address individual needs, leaving individuals and the vulnerable hesitant to seek help from institutions due to shame, guilt and fear.

Family, friends, and trusted caregivers could play a crucial role as guardians, stepping in to assist and help address a scam before the damage is done, but they rarely become aware until too late.

Better awareness and tools could empower and directly support individuals and those guardians who care against the ever-evolving threat of scams and save billions lost to scammers.

National registers

Checking transactions and payments

We check the details of transactions and payees, including the description, merchant, payee, BPAY biller, PayID, account number and NPP payment details, against published national registers, so a possible match is flagged.

ASIC MoneySmart

Businesses operating without a licence, impersonating legitimate firms, or running suspected investment scams. Matched on their names, websites and known bank accounts.

ASIC

Banned and disqualified organisations, companies that are deregistered, struck off or in administration, and new companies or business names you are paying for the first time.

ACMA

Gambling websites blocked under the Interactive Gambling Act.

ACNC

Charities whose registration has been revoked, or that have an enforcement outcome recorded.

AI and scams

Scams no longer look like scams

For years the advice was simple: look for the spelling mistakes, the odd email address, the offer that is too good to be true. AI has taken those clues away. Today’s scams are polished, personal and made at a scale no one can keep up with on their own.

  • They look real

A cloned bank website. A well-known face recommending an investment. A voice on the phone that sounds just like your grandson. AI can make a convincing fake in minutes.

  • They feel personal

Scammers draw on data breaches and social media, so the message knows your name, your bank and what you bought last week. It does not feel like a stranger. It feels like someone who knows you.

  • They never stop

One scammer with AI can run thousands of conversations at once, day and night, learning what works and coming back with something new. You only have to miss one.

Awareness still matters. It is just no longer enough.

Even careful, switched-on people get caught, because the scam is built not to look like one. So Custodio does not rely on you spotting it. We watch the place every scam has to end up: your money.

  • Monitoring, every few hours Your accounts are checked against detection rules, scam intelligence and what is normal for you.
  • You get an alert Explained in plain language, so you can stop and check.
  • Someone you trust, if you choose Add a family member or friend as a guardian and they are alerted too, so you are never working it out alone.

Breach response

Your data gets leaked. Watch what happens next

Data breaches and leaks have become routine in Australia. The risk does not end with the notification letter or email, it starts when someone uses what they took. Custodio watches the accounts that matter, so an out-of-character payment gets noticed early.
